About Ethel Janes

Ethel Janes was created as a place where life slows down.

Tucked inside a nearly 100-year-old home in Historic Old Town Lewisville, Ethel Janes blends real food made from scratch, handcrafted cocktails, books, conversation, and genuine hospitality. It's a place to gather with friends, celebrate milestones, enjoy a quiet lunch, linger over a cocktail, or simply take a moment for yourself.

Everything we do is inspired by a simple belief: some of life's best moments happen around a table.

Whether you're joining us for a bowl of homemade soup, a handcrafted cocktail, a monthly event, or simply a good book from our library shelves, we hope you feel right at home.

Ethel Ione (Janes) Haskett

Ethel Janes was the kind of woman who never let anyone leave hungry.

Born in rural Illinois in 1920, she spent her life caring for family, feeding neighbors, growing gardens, baking pies, preserving food, and making every person who walked through her door feel welcome. Her kitchen was the heart of her home - a place filled with stories, laughter, comfort, and unconditional love.

She believed food was one of the purest ways to care for people.

Ethel Janes is named in her honor and built around the values she lived every day: generosity, hospitality, kindness, and bringing people together around the table.

A Family Legacy

Ethel's granddaughter, Natasha DeHart, inherited her love of feeding people well and creating spaces for loved ones to gather.

After founding BENDT Distilling Co. in Old Town Lewisville, Texas in 2012 and spending more than a decade crafting award-winning Texas whiskey, Natasha dreamed of branching out to build a space that combined so many of her loves: real food, handcrafted cocktails, old books and the comfort of being welcomed into someone's home.

In 2025, that dream became a reality with the opening of Ethel Janes.

Today, Ethel's carries forward both sides of the family legacy - the hospitality and home cooking of Grandma Ethel and the craftsmanship of BENDT Distilling Co. Together, they’ve created a place that feels a little like yesterday, but is exactly where you want to be today.
